Like Two and a Half Men (first airdate: 2003), Weird Al Yankovic (debut record: 1984), and kicks to the groin (um, forever), some forms of entertainment have been around a lot longer than youd think. And though their debatably humorous offerings are predictable, theres a comfort in knowing what to expect.
Maybe thats the secret to Garrison Keillors staying power. Hailing from Anoka, Minnesota (fun to say), Keillor, 67, is best known as the hypno-throated host of Minnesota Public Radios A Prairie Home Companion. The old-timey variety show features Keillors specialty, a weekly stand-up bit titled The News from Lake Wobegon (a fictional small town in Minnesota), performed before a live audience.
These days, the three-time-married monologist and face-made-for-radio personality is lulling folks into complacency with tales of growing up in the Midwest, the people of Lake Wobegon, late-life fatherhood, and more.
Catch Keillor for a one-night-only engagement of hometown humor.
