The Trunk Space, one of downtown Phoenix’s top art galleries and performance venues, celebrates its sixth anniversary this month. Ample toasts and huzzahs should be sent the spot’s way, especially considering the rough and tumble place that the local art scene can be.

The Trunk Space cheers the artists that have decked its halls over the years with the “Secret Six,” a group exhibition that gives it up to six main players that have made their mark on the space. For participating artist Gregory Sale, the meaning is nearly literal. His interpretive piece, which is hanging outside on one of the building’s walls, includes oversized buttons that declare, "I could be the sound you can't pronounce."

Other artists in this show include clay works by Julian Vandercook, an Arizona sculptor currently living in Himeji, Japan; downtown stalwart Janet de Berge Lange, who created a wall-sized, quilt-style assemblage entitled Girl (it’s one of our favorite pieces in the exhibit); Doug Oland and his stirring works in oil; Camilla Taylor and her printmaking works on canvas; and art-decathlete Lisa Takata.
