For five years, Darci Johnson's reZurrection Gallery has lent a touch of funk and spunk to the downtown Tempe scene. Now, like a phoenix bird in reverse, reZurrection's doors are closing because of rising rent prices in the area. Johnson plans to take her furnishings and accessories online (at www.rezurrection.com), but not before one last blowout of an exhibition. You can gambol through the gallery with ghosts of artists past at reZurrection's Five-Year Retrospective, opening Saturday, August 13, and continuing through September 2. The exhibition will provide a final reminder of how cool reZurrection was. ReZurrection is also hosting an ongoing "moving" sale of some of its existing vintage stuff each Friday through September 9. If you think Celtic culture is only for Beantown basketball fans, it's time to expand your horizons, bucko. The Irish Cultural Center's Ceili Workshop is "probably the closest to what they would do in Ireland," says ICC executive assistant Mary Moriarty. It's for dancers 16 and older who are beginners or experienced in the tradition of ceilidh (pronounced "kay-lee"), a live music event that features partner dances performed in circles and squares. The workshop is held the second Saturday of each month (to prepare for the center's official Ceili each third Friday), and the next one is scheduled for 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, August 13, at ICC, 1106 North Central. For every Elvis fan who refuses to accept that the King has terminally left the building, there's a gaggle of Grateful Dead fans smoke-signaling the spirit of Jerry Garcia. Sure, they know he's really dead, but for diehard fans, the Dead will never die. So wake up and smell the patchouli on Saturday, August 13, when the Sail Inn honors the tie-dyed troubadour with the 10th Annual Jerry Garcia Memorial Festival. Local band Xtra Ticket will roll out the jams from 8 p.m. 'til 2 a.m. "At any given time, our band can play about 180 Grateful Dead songs," says guitarist and vocalist Dave A'bear. Promoter Gina Lombardi says "the hippies came out in droves" for last year's festival, which drew record attendance at the 15-year-old club. When the Big One finally strikes the San Andreas Fault and our neighbor to the west slides into the Pacific Ocean, Arizona will become primo beachfront property. And like Superman nemesis Lex Luthor, the people at the Wrigley Mansion Club, 2501 East Telawa Trail, are prepping for those future days of surf and sand with a Beach Party on Friday, August 12. Geordie's Lounge, located inside the posh estate, will play host to local cover band Money, which will perform '60s and '70s beach hits. Attendees are encouraged to dress in beach wear. Long denigrated as the entertainment world's eye-crossing Edsel, 3-D is making a comeback in the new millennium. And while there's nothing new under the sun, we've stumbled across something new under the moon in Cave Creek's 3-D Fireworks Extravaganza. Honoring the U.S. servicemen and women in Iraq, as well as the firefighters who snuffed out the recent Cave Creek Complex Fire, the 3-D do kicks off at 9 p.m. Friday, August 12, behind Harold's Cave Creek Corral and the Buffalo Chip Saloon, and at the same time Saturday, August 13, near the Satisfied Frog.
