You know youve got a good thing going when youve been tutored by someone whos been a driving force in forwarding the Chicano art movement as a whole. Vincent Valdez was schooled in the art of art-making by Alex Rubio, the San Antonio-based muralist known as El Diablito; the two are showing together at Pravus in a must-see exhibit that hangs through June 26.
The friends have much different styles Rubios work tends to include more traditional Latin American themes illustrated with loud colors on large, mixed-media formats, while the younger Valdez tends toward more subdued works chronicling contemporary Chicano themes but together, the two create a palette unmatched by any arty pair we can think of.
Fridays, Saturdays. Starts: May 1. Continues through June 26, 2009
