- Chaos Theory 12 @ Legend City Studios
If you're serious about studying contemporary art in Phoenix or just seriously looking to have a good time with a collection of insanely talented local artists, Chaos Theory is annual one-night show to do both.
The show, organized by the Legend City Studios crew (Randy Slack and Brandon Sullivan), will feature artwork by more than 50 local artists, all installed in 24 hours. And it'll all come down in the morning. The artist list is entirely too long to post in this field guide, so check out the flier for more information. The show starts at 6 p.m. at Legend City, 521 W Van Buren.
- A Failed Entertainment @ monOrchid
There will certainly be no failure in entertainment at monOrchid tonight.
Local designers Mark Dudlik and Safwat Saleem and artists Jon Garza and Sebastien Millon will host a four-man show of completely unrelated artwork. Dudlik will display work from his Pen & Pandas project, what he describes as "the many ways one can draw a panda and still not really capture the adorableness of the world's greatest argument against evolution."
Saleem presents the finale to his "OH SHIT" that "captures the feeling of dread when you know you're fucked as you stare into the dark eyes of death ... or when you realize you don't have any clean underwear right before an important meeting."Garza's showing his artwork, self-described as "typography, bright ass color palettes, and shitty scrap wood." Millon, of course, is all about his morbid bunnies and bears. The show opens at 6 p.m. at monOrchid, 214 E. Roosevelt.
- CALACA Day of Dead Caminos de la Muerte @ Bragg's Pie Factory
Caminos de la Muerte kicks off the yearly Day of the Dead festival, complete with art, ofrendas, nichos, altars, and installations curated by Marco Albaran and Ruben Galicia.
The show opens at 6 p.m. at Bragg's Pie, 1301 NW Grand Ave.
Other Useful Information:
- The Red Bull skateboard fest kicks off tonight on Roosevelt Row. Get there early if you expect to park. Better yet, walk.
- The Phoenix Art Museum has great parking (and great art, go figure), and is back as one of the stops for the First Friday Trolley. On-street parking is limited along Roosevelt Street between First and Seventh streets (Note: meters downtown are still checked until 8 p.m.). Or if you can nab a spot, check out the free street parking on Grand Avenue ...
