Dream On

While the Atlanta Dream continue to battle it out with the Chicago Sky for the top spot in the WNBA’s East Conference, the Phoenix Mercury hold down third in the West just behind bitter rival Los Angeles Sparks. Both teams feature 2013 all-star selections: rookie center Brittney Griner and six-time all-star Diana Taurasi for the Mercury; forward Angel McCoughtry for the Dream. McCoughtry, the 2012 scoring champ, should give the Mercury fits. She leads the league in steals, is second in scoring and fifth in assists. Taurasi hopes to counter that, as she currently leads the scoring race and places second in assists. League-leading stats, tight conference races, all-stars -- it just adds fire to both team’s playoff expectations. It also means a hard-fought game is expected.

Tip off is 7 p.m. Saturday, August 3, at the US Airways Center, 201 East Jefferson Street. Ticket prices begin at $11. Call 602-252-9622 or visit www.wnba.com/mercury.
