Screw Shakespeare and his depiction of witches as old, ugly hags brewing potions from newt eyes and frog’s toes. These days, witches come in all shapes and sizes, from Wicked’s perky blond enchantress Glinda to the teenage hotties of the CW’s The Secret Circle.

Grab your pointy hat and come out of the broom closet for the Arizona Witches Ball, firing at the Crowne Plaza. The evening includes music from Of the Earth and Celtic band Traveler, belly dancing, a costume contest, and a sit-down dinner of wool of bat and tongue of dog (just kidding, it’s actually chicken marsala, veggies, and cheesecake).

Tarot readers will be on hand to predict your future, and Kate Morrow will lead guests in Halloween rituals to honor the dead. Both real-life witches and regular folk are welcome -- just be sure to pronounce Samhain correctly or risk being turned into a toad.
