Found: Stray Cats

Apparently some misguided fans of Stray Cat Theatre have been heading for the flashy new Tempe Center for the Arts, rather than the older Tempe Performing Arts Center, in search of this kicky troupe’s oddball entertainments. This month, those folks will want to take note: head to the former home of the Center, where Stray Cat now resides; otherwise, they’re apt to miss Speech & Debate, which promises to be a fun diversion from the holidays.

Stephen Karam’s black comedy makes fun of teen angst and sex scandals with the usual group of high school misfit weirdos, but one imagines that the combination of Karam’s typical social commentary combined with Ron May’s always sterling direction (not to mention a soundtrack of George Michael’s pop hits) will provide some kind of new take on an old story.

Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: Dec. 4. Continues through Dec. 19, 2009
