There are just 30 days until the first Arizona Warrior Dash -- a few mile course packed with obstacles, people in strange costumes, mud, and tons of free beer. If you've signed up, you've definitely already started training, right?
If not, you still have plenty of time.
Check our course and training tips after the jump ...
The course consists of a 3.4-mile run so make sure you're prepped (meaning, you might want to make sure you're capable of jogging a few miles in a stupid outfit though an occasional mud pit).
There are also a number of obstacles including climbing a cargo net and leaping over fire. While you may not be able to recreate these situations at home in order to prepare, we suggest you lift a few weights and at least make sure you can jump over a candle.
"Some people will train by hanging out on the couch and practicing their warrior cry, others will build a custom workout routine, and others will concentrate more on what their costume for the day will be," says the Warrior Dash's Alex Yount. "But when people are looking to get some serious training in I recommend focusing on endurance training for the run, and strength training for the obstacles."
While it's important to be physically prepared for the trek, Yount is right, it's all about the costume.
The best way to approach Warrior Dash is to think of it like Halloween - put your best creative efforts into the costume. If you're going with friends, develop a theme. Be the cast of an awesome '80s TV show, have everyone wear suits and ties, or just be zombies (always a crowd-pleaser).
Also during the dash, you'll be running, hopping over logs, teetering along tires and slogging through mud, so don't spend too much time on your costume makeup.
The Warrior Dash Arizona will be held at 20585 E. Price (Station) Road in Florence on April 30 and May 1. Visit the Warrior Dash website for more information.
All of the Saturday waves are filled, but the last four waves on Sunday are available so sign up soon.
