Gearing up for Phoenix Comicon

The members of Dune Sea Garrison are shining up their stormtrooper armor, cosplay artists and steampunk fans are putting their final touches on their costumes, geeks are dreaming up questions to ask their heroes like Stan Lee and Leonard Nimoy, and comic book retailers are selecting which titles they'll be selling.

Yup, it seems like plenty of folks across the Valley are getting ready for Phoenix Comicon, the annual four-day feast of pop culture and geekdom, which kicks off on Thursday at the Phoenix Convention Center and focuses on comic books, science fiction, steampunk, anime, horror, fantasy, and similar subject matter.

Jackalope Ranch will be gearing up for Phoenix Comicon over the next few days, offering interviews with a few of the special guests who are scheduled to appear, as well as previewing what to expect at the event. (And be sure to check out comics by rock stars on Up on the Sun).

Our coverage kicks off tomorrow with a glimpse at finalists of the annual badge art contest. Check back over the next few days for interviews with Billy Dee Williams (a.k.a. Lando Calrissian from The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi) and Kristin Bauer from True Blood, as well as other surprises.
