Glow Parties, Mesa Arts Center Exhibition Openings and Pirate/Porn Star Costume Contests Over the Weekend

Day Glo Derailleur at Rusty Spoke Would be candy kids sported their favorite neon clothing and brought glowsticks to the Day Glo Derailleur at The Rusty Spoke Community Bicycle Collective on Saturday, September 15. A big pants obstacle course, candy necklace ring toss, and costume contest were all fair game for the elusive raver Barbie Doll prizes.

Fire and Ice: Mesa Arts Center Fall Opening The Mesa Arts Center stayed true to its theme on Friday night for its Fall opening. There was plenty of fire and ice. New exhibits included Bob Carey's Ballerina which runs from September 14 to December 2.

Pirates and Porn Stars at The Big Bang What do porn stars and pirates have in common? A love for booty, of course! The pirates outnumbered the porn stars a bit at The Pirates and Pornstars Dance Party at The Big Bang on Thursday, September 13, but there were plenty of pirate hats and bottles of rum to go around.

Support the independent voice of Phoenix and help keep the future of New Times free.

Keep Phoenix New Times Free... Since we started Phoenix New Times, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Phoenix, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Phoenix with no paywalls.
