Tempe's Broadmor Elementary is home to some seriously creative students and some very cool parents who've joined forces for the past five years to produce Hoodstock.
Think indie music and arts festival meets school fundraising event and you're on the path to what's been an annual showcase of emerging talent (and a cool excuse to fund creative programming for kids).
The Broadmor PTA (which, full disclosure includes a couple New Times contributors) announced this week that this year's Hoodstock, on Saturday, May 4 from 5 to 8 p.m., will include the school's annual Spring Art Auction with work from students grades first through fifth.
On display will be the annual collection of LP artwork created by students who paint, glue, draw, and re-imagine a record canvas to the live tunes and performances of The Prowling Kind, John Mitchell Jazz Band, Ballet Folklorico, Ollin Yoliztli, and Jenefer Miller.
Food will up for grabs (and cash) from local food trucks Sandra Dee's Catering and Kona Ice. T-shirts and LPs will be on sale for $10 each and tickets for the raffle baskets are $2 each or 6 for $10. According to the Broadmor PTA, all proceeds from Hoodstock will support student enrichment programs for Broadmor students.
Broadmor Elementary is at 311 E. Aepli Dr. in Tempe.
