Hopped Up

Club dancing is still awesome, but sometimes we’re desperate to get away from the popped collars, tacky go-go dancers, and bland DJ-spun electronica of Scottsdale’s nightlife scene. We crave something simpler, something from an era when hipsters were idolized and “swinging” didn’t involve swapping wives. For that, there’s Savoy Night, a weekly swing dance event that includes a free half-hour lesson for beginners.

Learn how to do the Lindy Hop, Shag, and Jitterbug with The Savoy Hop Cats, aka instructors Nathaniel and Elizabeth Smalley, and then cut a rug on your own as DJ-ANGO spins old and new school tunes from the likes of Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, Christina Aguilera, and the Cherry Poppin' Daddies.
