For the last year, local photographers William Legoullon and Jason Roehner have collected creative love letters to Arizona by local artists. The collection, Legoullon says, is not about where the state has been in the last 100 years, but is instead a visualization of where we are now with respect to the past. "Arizona is a place that for so long was thought of as an open canvas, driven by the readily available land, resources, and business opportunities," he says. "As we have adapted to this unique environment, we are just beginning to recognize and embrace what this place has become."

Legoullon and Roehner's “The Forty Eighth: Contemporary Photography at Arizona’s Centennial” opens on Tuesday, February 14, in conjunction with the state's centennial, at MonOrchid Gallery.

Participating artists include Andrew Phelps, Mathew Moore, William Rugen, Jesse Rieser, Bryon Darby, Michael Lundgren, Jason Roehner, Thomas Schultz, Tiffiney Yazzie, Edgar Cardenas, and Michael Mulno.
