Jazz Masters

Newsflash, University of Iowa researchers: It doesn’t take a video game study to tell us that the American attention span is that of a goldfish. Information is fed to us in bite-size chunks these days, whether in a 140-character tweet or a Daily Show sound byte.

Even artists are breaking their contributions down for easy digestion, such as with MarioCo.Dance's debut show Propulsion, a series of short stories told through movement at Herberger Theater Center's Stage West. “I don’t have ADD; there’s just a lot going on in my head,” quips artistic director Tracy Marion. “My life has been like a roller coaster the past year and the choreography reflects that.

The jazz performance features original vignettes inspired by real-life events, from a moving 9-minute solo performed in a door frame to a comedic number featuring a drunken Scottsdale blonde in hot pink pointe shoes.
