Looking for something to do this weekend? "Night Owl" is a quick guide to special nights at bars and clubs around town. We'll give you a few hints re: cover, dress code, music and atmosphere. Saturdays mark Live Music Saturdays at Rare Earth Coffee and Wine Bar.

Rare Earth's Live Music Saturdays take mellow to another level. Wine sipping and finger picking guitar go down every Saturday night at this tranquil Troon tavern.

The evening features a quiet collection of dittys, decanters and friendly banter.

Check out the latest edition and a full rundown after the jump...

The Place:

What we loved: The interesting mix of sports on tv and live music in a  fairly fancy environment.

What we didn't love: Rare Earth's location lives up to it's name in that the bar is indeed on rarely seen earth. The wine bar is basically at the corner of a long dark road and a long dusty road.

Are we going back? We might be back.

Keep Phoenix New Times Free... Since we started Phoenix New Times, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Phoenix, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Phoenix with no paywalls.
