Okay, so Phoenix doesn’t get snow. Boo-hoo. Who wants it anyway? Having to trudge through frozen water is not glamorous, pretty, or convenient. So get over it already.

Instead, we make our own traditions like luminarias. A desert path lined with the flickering glow from humble paper bags is just as gorgeous as a snow-dusted lawn. And, guess what? We don't have to shovel luminarias to get to our car.

We win.

And we win on Saturday, December 18, when a local park offers an evening hike on trails decorated with the beautiful southwest holiday tradition.

Check out the Luminary Walk at Cave Creek Regional Park, 37019 North Lava Lane. The trail is open from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and is lined with the glowing bags.
