If youre the adventurous type, youll love this caveat from the folks at Maricopa County Parks & Recreation: This is not a guided ride. Volunteers will sweep the course to ensure all riders return safely. Sweep the course? What, for Bell-helmet-wearing, still-warm corpses or something? Thats so cool! To those who are all scaredy-cat about such proclamations, the ride is really not that ominous. For one, it takes place on the Pemberton Trail, which is a totally safe, not-super-technical 15.4-mile path. And as long as you have bike lights with juice for at least three hours, youll be good to go.
