Attention yogis and yoginis: September is National Yoga Month, and we've rounded up some of the Valley's yoga studio specials and events for you in one nice, little package. Wanna flow under the moon, downward dog under the sun, warrior in the dark with glow bracelets under blacklights, learn how to improve your handstand, or maybe further your knowledge on your chakras? We've got it all for you, plus special pricing information, all in honor of the national observance, which is actually designated by the Department of Health and Human Services. Who knew?

Sutra Midtown

For the month of September, Sutra hosts free Rooftop Yoga every Monday night at 7 p.m. at Hotel Palomar's Lustre Bar with special guest DJ YKNOT.

Saturday, September 14, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.: Ashtanga Mix Workshop with Lisa Cohen "In keeping with the tradition and guiding principles of my Guru Pattabhi Jois, we concentrate on breath (pranayama), bundha (locks) and dristi (focus) as we move steadily and smoothly through a combination of Primary, Second and Advanced series," Cohen writes. "Beginning with the Invocation and Surya Namaskara , we continue with a Mix sequence put together in an intelligent, progressive and fun style. Throughout the Practice we continue to integrate the principles of breath and alignment." The cost for the workshop is $20 the day of. If you pre-register it costs $18 for non-members of Sutra, and $16 for members.

Sunday, September 15, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.: Chakras & Self-Discovery with Danielle Campagna Cleanse, open, and activate all seven chakras during this in-depth workshop. Learn how to unblock the flow of energy while exploring the physical, mental, emotional, sexual, and spiritual qualities of the chakras. Enhanced with a brief revitalizing flow and concluded with a deep meditation, this workshop is $16 for members, $18 for pre-registered non-members, and $20 the day of.

Sunday, September 22, from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.: Lunar Flow at Hotel Clarendon with Angie Hall, featuring DJ YKNOT Amplify your practice under the full moon with this free class.

Saturday, September 28 at 10:30 a.m.: Yoga in the Park at CityScape with Danielle Campagna and DJ YKNOT Submerge yourself in the city's vibration by practicing vinyasa in downtown Phoenix. The workshop is free.

New students can sign up for a two-week tasting of unlimited yoga and Skullpt for $30. For the month of September, the studio offers unlimited yoga memberships for $109 per month and 20-class packs for $210, which include yoga and Skullpt classes.

Friday, September 13, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.: Intro to Ashtanga with Dan Neumann If you've ever been curious about this seemingly mysterious branch of yoga, including how yoga began and eventually made its way to the States, this might be the workshop for you. Neumann will teach the intro class as he explains the physical and philosophical foundations of ashtanga yoga, as well as how the ancient practice gave birth to the vinyasa flow that most of us are familiar with.

Friday, September 20, from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m.: Glow Flow with Harmony Fulton How can you make a great flow class even better? Add blacklights and glow bracelets, of course! The studio encourages you to wear neon for extra fun, and feel free to bring your own glow-in-the-dark props, although they will provide the bracelets.

Either class is free if it's your first at the studio. If not it costs $15 to drop in, $10 for students, or it's included in your membership package if applicable.

Sunday, September 22, from 11:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.: Yoga 101 Workshop with Harmony Fulton Learn important information that can help decrease risk of injury as well as improve postures and overall knowledge of the poses and practice. Cost is free for members and $5 for non-members.

Urban Yoga

For the entire month of September, all of the studio's 6:30 a.m. sunrise flow classes are $8. Additionally, the studio is offering specials on monthly massage auto-pay memberships, which cost $30 for a half-hour, $50 for one hour, $75 for one and one-half hours, and $100 for two hours.

Wednesday, September 11, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.: Sundown Yoga at the Garden. Practice with nature at the Desert Botanical Garden. Cost is $18 general or $14 for members. (Sundown Yoga will be every Wednesday at the same time through 10/16)

Friday through Sunday, September 13 to 15: Anatomy of Spirit weekend intensive with Mary Bruce Delve into the subtle body energies, learning about chakras, koshnas, gunas, and vayus. Learn the relationship between these subtle centers through theory and tantric practices that bring dynamic balance to the body and mind.

New students can sign up for a two-week trial membership for $25.

Sumits Yoga Scottsdale

If you're new to the studio you can do a special two-week trial membership for $20. The studio has recently added flow and yin classes to the schedule.

Sumits Yoga Biltmore Sunday, September 15, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.: Handstand workshop with Mollie Karlicek Wanna learn how to invert, or build the confidence and strength to do so without a wall? Whether your goal is to learn the basics of the handstand or how to gain more hang time, you might want to check this workshop out. The class is $35.

Sunday, September 22 at 1:30 p.m: Fall Equinox 108 Sun Salutations workshop with Julie Blew Ring in the fall the right way, by reconnecting to your energy source and deepening awareness of the changes in the body and mind that come with the change of seasons. Cost is $35.

Southwest Institute of Healing Arts

Every Saturday from 9 to 10:20 a.m. this month you can attend a Yoga 101 Foundations class, which is designed for students with zero to little previous yoga experience or those who want to revisit the fundamentals. Learn to connect with your breath and gain internal awareness to physical movement. It's free.

Saturday and Sunday, September 14 and 15: Deepen Your Yoga Practice workshop with Paul Dallaghan This is a two-day workshop for all levels. From this workshop you can learn how to incorporate the sitting practices of breath, mantra, meditation, and philosophy into an asana practice and further into your life. Saturday, September 21, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.: Ignite the Light Devotional/Bhakti gathering to celebrate and praise the divine omnipresence and divine within. Ignite the Light utilizes chanting, dancing, and gong meditation. Donation requested is $10, but nobody will be denied due to lack of funds

Sunday, September 22, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m: Global Mala Yoga for Peace The purpose of the Global Mala Yoga for Peace is to unite the global yoga community from every continent, school or approach to form a "mala around the earth" through collective practices based upon the sacred cycle of 108 salutations over the Fall Equinox as the yoga world's offering to further the UN International Peace Day. Admission is free.

Sunday, September 29, from 6 to 8 p.m.: Kirtan Chanting Kirtan chanting is for yoga practitioners and anyone who may want to integrate chanting as a daily devotional practice. Kirtan is integral to most yogic paths. Accompanied by musical instruments, a leader chants simple phrases, usually in Sanskrit or Hindi, allowing equal measure for the "mirror response" of the participants.

Monday, September 30, from 7 to 9 p.m.: Global Community Practice In celebration and closing of Yoga Awareness Month, join this free global community practice with yoga practitioners around the world.

Bikram Yoga AZ

Tuesday, September 17 from 6 to 8 p.m.: Sunset Yoga at Chaparral Park BYAZ's first-ever outdoor yoga experience. The class is free.
