NFL Sunday at Mister G's Pizzeria

Looking for something to do this week? "Night Owl" is a quick guide to special nights at bars and clubs around town. We'll give you a few hints re: cover, dress code, music and atmosphere. Sunday nights mark "NFL Sundays" at Mister G's in Tempe.

You've probably never heard of the place, but we feel it's in the rules of the ranch to share a good thing when we find it. Mister G's Pizzeria has been nestled in a modest Tempe strip mall since last June, serving up a tasty menu and full bar alongside the best games on TV. Read on for more on this sweet side-street sports bar...

The Time: 11 a.m. to 12 a.m., Sun. through Thurs. and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday  and Saturday.

The People: Most patrons are sports fans looking for a relaxing neighborhood joint where it's more about the game and less about the "scene."

The Fashion: Team jerseys are welcome, but be warned: This is Bronco's territory.

What we loved: So this "Mister G" you keep hearing about is a real person: Owner Larry Griffith (yes, you can call him Larry) offers great hospitality and a supremely friendly attitude.

What we didn't love: It was hard to find something we didn't like about this place. We'd like to see more guests when there aren't afternoon games, but we're guessing it'll grow as word gets out.

Would we go back? We're already planning our next visit. The bar will be hosting trivia during playoff games, so brush up before heading over.
