Have a hankering to acquire a new skill? Or did you just learn something so super cool that you really want to show others how to do it? Then PHX Free School may be your one-stop, skill-share shop.
A relatively new endeavor, the PHX Free School has offered a handful of workshops thus far, including one in self-defense principles. Current subjects on the sign-up sheet range from "Manifest the Future That You Want" and yoga to Chinese language lessons and personal accordion tutelage by Andrew Jemsek of local band Haunted Cologne.
"You can teach whatever," says a girl hanging out at Conspire on a recent morning, her foot-high dreads arranged in all sorts of shapes and angles. "I want to teach Israeli self defense, though I always forget the name of it."
Most classes take place at a house on 10th and Pierce streets, while some instruction sessions can be offered at your personal space.
