"William Christenberry and Andres Serrano": The two influential American photographers, both of whom trained as painters before swapping their palettes for cameras, are feted in this exhibition, which features some of the artists' most famous--and infamous--works, including images from Christenberry's Klan Room installation and from Serrano's Fluids series. It opens with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, November 7, and continues through Saturday, December 7, at Bentley Gallery, 4161 North Marshall Way in Scottsdale. A Great Day in Harlem, DIVA, and Chubby Jackson: Harlem, director Jean Bach's unrated 1995 documentary about photographer Art Kane's renowned 1958 group shot of everybody who was anybody in the golden age of jazz, screens at 8 p.m. Friday, November 8; and Saturday, November 9, at Scottsdale Center for the Arts, 7380 East Second Street. Performances by drummer Sherrie Maricle's all-woman big band DIVA follow each showing; Chubby, a former member of Woody Herman's Thundering Herd and one of the golden-agers featured in the Kane photo, is scheduled to introduce the film and "sing some scat" with DIVA. David "Honeyboy" Edwards, Jimmie Lee Robinson, and Steve James: Honeyboy, 85, is one of the greatest living Delta bluesmen. Robinson's a smokin' veteran of the Chicago scene. James is an Austin, Texas-based purveyor of the Anglo/acoustic blues. The traditionalists headline Phoenix Blues Society's "Back Porch Blues" show, which also includes performances by Arizona acts Duke Draper, Tommy Dukes, Lay De Jay, Stefan George, and Les Izmore. Architecture Week '96: The fourth annual commemoration, sponsored by the Arizona chapter of the American Institute of Architects, begins on Saturday, November 9 (see "Houses of Cards" in Kid Pics), but the really good stuff starts on Monday, November 11, with a free panel discussion titled "In Search of the Good House," featuring AIA architects John Douglas, Hugh Knoell and John Kane and scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium at Scottsdale Civic Center Library, 3839 North Civic Center Boulevard. William Boice, a member of the team that built the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed First Christian Church, 6750 North Seventh Avenue, leads a free tour of that facility at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 12. The second annual Architectural Film Festival features screenings of Maya Lin: A Strong Clear Vision (unrated) and another film to be announced and a lecture by Dan Harkins, Valley cinema-builder deluxe.
