Pop Goes The Easel

What do cold gin, David Bowie, and a Ouija board have in common -- besides the eighth-grade sleepover party where we first got felt up? You’ll get a smarter and far less embarrassing answer from artist Mike Maas during the Third Friday reception for his solo show “Aside and Besides.”

Maas, whose bold graphic designs have graced everything from roller-derby posters to the Monstar Maker iPhone app, created 20 paintings based on popular songs from the likes of Ol’ Blue Eyes, KISS, and The Cramps. “I know it’s a stretch for someone that’s obsessed with pop culture,” Maas says, “but I muddled through as best I could.”
