Getting the Oprah bump isn’t always a prestigious honor. After all, the "O" of approval comes from a woman who lists things as simple as kids’ alarm clocks and soft sweaters among her must-haves. Plus, she nearly killed hundreds of people in one shot by telling them they’re all owners of new 2012 Volkswagen Beetles. She’s not to be trusted. Photographer Phyllis Lane landed on the Oprah Magazine’s “O List” for 10,000 Hours, a stunning look the journey that dedicated gymnasts, pianists, and others take from being amateurs to ending up at the top of their game. It’s never easy being the best at your craft, but with countless hours of practice, Lane’s subjects slowly begin to make their advanced skills look effortless.
