The Japanese Friendship Garden is one of the most relaxing hidden gems in the city -- short of a few visible skyscrapers, it’s easy to get lost in the moment and forget that you’re in the heart of Phoenix. Japanese culture comes alive with more than needy koi fish with Haru in the Garden, a festival welcoming spring. Traditional Asian musicians will be sprinkled around the garden, playing Japanese bamboo flute, Chinese Zither, and percussive instruments amid tea ceremony demonstrations. The garden will be full of art displays, as guests can scope out artfully crafted kimonos, pottery, water painting, hina dolls, and temari balls. Traditional Asian food and Japanese beer is also available for purchase.

Celebrate spring at the Japanese Friendship Garden, 1125 North Third Avenue, from 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, March 22. Non-member adult tickets are $15. Call 602-256-3204 or visit www.japanesefriendshipgarden.org.
