Sette Up

Lisa Sette’s Scottsdale gallery is a staple in the arts community and a challenging scene for any artist to wiggle into. For more than 25 years, Sette has selected artists from across the country to include in her stable. She said recently that every two years she holds an open call. More than 500 artists typically apply. In the last round she chose just one artist -- Phoenix-based Alan Bur Johnson.

Sette represents a relatively small group of artists including local painters Carrie Marill, Claudio Dicochea, Rachel Bess, and Anthony Velasquez, photographer Mark Klett, and mixed-media artists Angela Ellsworth and Mayme Kratz (to name a few). These are among the heavy hitters in the local art scene, and, through Saturday, October 27, Sette will feature new work from each of them in “Refresh: A Selection of Exceptional Works."

Thu., July 5, 7-9 p.m.; Tuesdays-Fridays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturdays, 12-5 p.m.; Thursdays, 7-9 p.m. Starts: July 5. Continues through Oct. 27, 2012
