Boats are backdrops to some great stories, from Jack and Rose’s whirlwind romance in Titanic to The Lonely Island’s adventures with T-Pain in “I’m on a Boat.” Shipwrecks, flippy-floppies, and P. Diddy partying on a yacht may be the first things that come to mind when fancy boats are mentioned, but ships have always been an important part of culture.
An ocean liner is the setting for Cole Porter’s classic musical Anything Goes, which finds a lovestruck Billy sneaking aboard to pursue his new love interest, Hope. The young heiress is engaged to a stiff nobleman. So, Billy and his friends try to break them up. The shenanigans include fashioning a beard of Pomeranian hair, winning Chinese clothing in a strip poker match, and posing as Public Enemy Number One, all to win Hope’s affections.
