Sick Tricks

Phoenix might be hosting the Super Bowl in 2015, but we prefer watching the bighearted amateurs of the PHXAM Skateboard Contest risk their bones to seeing multimillionaire athletes shoving around. Cowtown Skateboards presents the 12th annual edition of the Valley’s biggest showdown of the year on Saturday, April 6.

The majority of PHXAM competitors are repping Arizona and California, but up-and-comers from as far away as Mexico and the Netherlands will vie for the $3000 top prize. Skullcandy sweetens the deal with their $2500 prize for best trick. Once the skating’s done, the shindig moves eastward to the Marquee Theatre, 730 North Mill Avenue, where the killer line up includes hometown heroes Andrew Jackson Jihad and the Black Lips as the headliners of the official after party.
