The words “state fair” tend to paint a pretty specific picture in a person’s mind. We’ve always associated state fairs with stuff like livestock competitions, hayrides, food stands designed to extract money from your wallet, and carnival rides designed to extract food from your stomach.

One thing that hasn’t really been incorporated into the zeitgeist is monster truck shows. WGAS Motorsports is hoping to change that this weekend when they host the Monster Games at the Arizona State Fairgrounds.

Friday’s festivities will feature all of the typical monster truck show fare -- monster trucks with vaguely threatening names like “Playing for Keeps” racing each other and doing tricks; automobiles being smashed by slightly larger automobiles, etc. For those who are no longer stimulated by seeing regular cars destroyed, the event will also feature a motor home demolition derby.
