Spring Has Sprung

With the exception of a Super Bowl here or there, it’s rare that Arizona gets a glimmer of national spotlight for sports. The glaring exception to this rule is the Cactus League. For one month each year, all eyes (or at least all of the eyes that belong to people who still care about baseball) are on the Valley for reasons that aren’t embarrassing.

Arizona’s month in the spotlight will kick off Friday, February 22, with three games. Peoria Sports Complex, 16101 North 83rd Avenue, will host a contest between the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres. AL West rivals Kansas City and Texas will face off at Surprise Stadium, 15960 North Bullard, a fitting location for two of the oldest rosters in the majors. Finally, at Goodyear Ballpark, 1933 South Ballpark Way, the Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds will face off in a battle of teams from America’s most depressing state. First pitch for all three games is at 1:05 p.m., so plan your work accordingly.
