Chess for children and teens

Where: Burton Barr Central Library

When: Wednesday, June 10 and 17, July 1 and 8, 3:30-6 p.m.

Ages: 5-16

Learn to play chess or improve your game. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

Anime matinee

Where: Burton Barr Central

When: Sunday, June 21, and July 19, 2-5 p.m.

Ages: 12-18

Watch and review new anime and manga, talk about favorite characters and books.

• Silk-screen T-shirt workshop

Where: Burton Barr Central

When: Saturday June 13, 3-4 p.m.

Ages: 12-18

Red Rohall shows how to silk-screen your own design on a T-shirt (registration required).


• 2nd Annual Adult Summer Reading Program

When: Through July 28

Ages: Adult

Register at the adult reference desk in the Tempe Public Library. Choose your book (any genre). Choose your format (book, paperback, audio book, etc.). Once you have read your item fill out the book review card/prize entry form. Drawings for prizes will be held June 16, July 7, and July 28.

• Coffee, Tea and Books

When: Thursdays, 7-9 p.m. in the Connections Café

(June 25: Loving Frank by Nancy Horan)

Bring $5 for refreshments.


• Adult Writing Group

Where: Mustang Branch

When: 2nd/4th Tuesdays and 1st/3rd Fridays of each month

Creative-writing technique and critique for published and unpublished authors.


• YAAC (Young Adult Advisory Committee)

Ages: 12-18

Talk about books, write reviews, and publish newsletter.
