Surf Roots Tour

Sammy Wiley of The Wiley One might be the closest thing to Jack Johnson the Valley has. The laid-back dude (you can spot him by his endless collection of hats) promotes organic dining, rides a bicycle and has songs with such sticky-sweet titles such as, "Gotta Lotta Love." And his inadvertent promotion of board sports with the band's single "Never Bored on a Board" recently scored the group a spot playing the Summer X Games 16 in Los Angeles. Who knows, maybe the band will skate on down to Phoenix's Compound Grill when they play the venue this Saturday, though it's got to be difficult to pull a drum kit on a skateboard. The bluesy band, with hints of pop and hip-hop, plays at 8 p.m. with Anuhea, The Green, and Tamarama as a part of the Surf Roots Tour.
