Teenage stand-up comic Alex Lemoine has a certain awkward, self-conscious charm both on and off the stage that makes you want to give the 16-year-old a big ol’ hug after busting a gut at his jokes. It’s only because the adolescent cutup, whose embryonic comedy career is a mere two years old, fills his routines with stories about death, dying, cancer, and serial killers in addition to tales concerning the numbskull antics of his fellow students.

“Some of it's kind of dark…yeah, I’d say it's slightly darker material,” he says. “But I also have normal jokes about food and other teenagers and things like that.” Lemoine’s odd and unusual tales of teenagehood are likely to make up his the bulk of his stage time during Catawampus: 3D, a comedy showcase on Saturday, September 29, at Trunk Space, 1506 Grand Avenue. It will mark his second anniversary of cracking wise and include performances from such other local comics as Jamie Sanderson, Teddy Bearskovich, and Steve Marek.
