Secrets don't make friends, but the little (and big) things we keep to ourselves can inspire compelling art. As time goes on, those hidden stories accumulate, sometimes in diaries and sometimes compiled and translated for the stage. The latter is the case when it comes to Center Dance Ensemble's new program of modern dance: Secrets.

Freshly choreographed by artistic director Frances Smith Cohen, resident choreographer Diane McNeal Hunt, guest choreographer Angela Rosenkrans, and company members Amber Robins, Erin Lovrein, and Scott Bodily, the show will feature multiple pieces, including a solo performance of Addio by guest artist Nicole Olson, about secrets of loss, connections, and friendship.

Center Dance shares Secrets at Herberger Theater Center, 222 East Monroe Street. The show opens at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 6, and runs through Sunday, March 9. Tickets are $27 for adults and available via www.herbergertheater.org or by calling 602-252-8497. Abridged daytime performances take place at 12:10 p.m. March 7 and 8 and cost $6.

March 6-8, 7:30 p.m.; Sun., March 9, 2 p.m., 2014
