The Magic Touch

For what seems like an eternity, the Los Angeles Lakers have dominated headlines as they hobble their way to a disappointing and yet uncertain finish line, bruised egos and bloated payroll in tow. Meanwhile, a former Laker has not only purchased the City of Angel's baseball counterpart, he's stacked them with Major League Baseball's most expensive roster.

Despite the Dodger's off-season acquisitions, most hardball prognosticators are still seeing Giants in their crystal balls. Even if Magic Johnson is the most likable Laker of all time, just about everyone outside of L.A. finds more likable the prospect of his $2 billion Dodgers faltering. It would be all too fitting: both the Dodgers and the Lakers hemorrhaging money and fanfare with nothing to show for it, representing L.A. exquisitely.
