Some people have pumpkin patches, others have trick-or-treating, but for the downtown arts scene, the fall tradition is Lisa Starry's A Vampire Tale. The Scorpius Dance Theatre production returns to Phoenix Theatre for its 11th season, and due to popularity, the company is encouraging dance fans to snap up tickets early.

Aptly called "the Nutcracker of Halloween," this spooky yet sultry choreographed performance tells the tale of a girl seduced by the undead. This original production, created well before the campy True Blood and the tween-friendly Twilight saga, has toured across the U.S. and the U.K., evolving from what was once a 35-minute dance number to a two-hour, heart-stopping show.

One of the larger changes in this year's production of A Vampire Tale will feature Gavin Sisson as vampire king Viktor, a part long-held by Starry's husband David who retired from the male lead role after last season.

Showtimes for Lisa Starry's A Vampire Tale are 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, October 2 through 11. Reserved seating ranges from $20 to $40. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.scorpiusdance.com/events or call 602-254-2151.
