Support the independent voice of Phoenix and help keep the future of New Times free.
If you're done checking out Downtown galleries during tonight's Third Friday artwalk, want an excuse to check out some sweet skate gear, or need an opportunity to cool off this weekend, we have you covered:
Big Lebowski Party @ Sail Inn Nobody throws a party like The Dude, and tonight, the White Russian slinging, bathrobe wearing, bowling fanatic will be honored at the Tempe dive bar with a screening of the Coen Brothers' 1998 cult classic film with a costume party, Lebowski-themed art, and more. Doors open at 7 p.m. Check the
event page for more details.
Join + Cast Closing Reception @ AE England
For a year and a half, local creatives Jennifer Campbell and Catherine Akins set out to find, collect, and curate the stories of Phoenix contemporary artists and the local contemporary art scene.
The two released their book on July 1 and tonight will be the last chance to get an up-close-and personal look at work by a number of the book's 46 artists including Mary Shindell, Gregory Sale and Ellie Richards to name a few. See the
event invite for more details.
Street League Skateboarding DC Tour @ Jobing.com Arena
The Glendale arena is bound to be a frenzy of kick-flips, ollies, and massive air this weekend with the invasion of Street League Skateboarding's DC Tour and national championship. The sponsored skate boarders will be at Jobing.com Arena Saturday and Sunday and will unveil Phoenix's new skate park, made possible by funding from DC boarder, Rob Dyrdek. Check the
DC website for more details.
Colored Water Throwing Festival @ The Firehouse
The Firehouse collective is keeping things cool this Saturday with a water-themed group show, complete with a colored water throwing festival that they promise will get a little messy. The event, which kicks off at 1 p.m., is a potluck, a party, a dance event, and a great excuse to wear a crappy T-shirt. See the
Facebook event page for more details.
Adult Swim @ The Millenium Resort
And to clean it all off with the help of a few waves and swimsuit-clad locals at the one-off of Jen Deveroux and Jared Alan's Adult Swim. The annual event will take over Scottsdale this Sunday with a daylong party bus from downtown Phoenix, local Djs, and plenty of drink tickets to go around. The party kicks off at noon. For more info, check out the
Facebook invitation.
Keep Phoenix New Times Free... Since we started Phoenix New Times, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Phoenix, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism.
