Its become an annual thing, South Mountain Community Colleges production of Black Women Walking. For the past three years, the school has celebrated Black History Month with the popular one-act play spotlighting the achievements of eleven notable African-American women. Playwright Karen F. Williams memory play considers the contributions of Harriet Tubman, Mary McLeod Bethune, and Sojourner Truth to our America, by way of reminiscences from a trio of friends gathered for a chat. The focus, of course, is on the courage, character, and smarts of these and eight other black heroines, but Williams doesnt dwell on the hardship that dogged them as they fought for justice and equality in tougher times.
Directed by Kevvin Taylor, the one-act will perform in the colleges Performance Hall.
