Wandering Eye

Everyone’s in a rush to get somewhere and we think it would behoove those movers and shakers to get lost.

Michael P. Berman’s photographs make us want to ditch our GPS-enabled phones to head outside the reach of cities. He earned an MFA in photography from ASU in 1985 and has gone on to become a Guggenheim Fellow in his chosen art. His black and white photos of the deserts and grasslands of Arizona, California, New Mexico, Texas, and Mexico reflect Berman’s expert eye in seeking the soul of wide-open spaces.

KEEP PHOENIX NEW TIMES FREE... Since we started Phoenix New Times, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Phoenix, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
