Weekly Freebie: Uptown P.E.N. at Practical Art

Introducing the Weekly Freebie. Each week, Jackalope Ranch brings you a free event, workshop, or you-name-it happening in Phoenix. Because sometimes the best things in life really are free. This week's freebie: Uptown P.E.N. at Practical Art

Every second Thursday (June 14) of the month from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Practical Art hosts Uptown P.E.N.

The Poetry Event Night offers a laid-back (air-conditioned) environment for self-expression, as well as drinks and refreshments.

Unleash your poetic talent or take in the words and rhythms of other creative locals. With an hour of available open-mic time, performances are on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested poets / wordsmiths, should e-mail [email protected] to sign up.

The remaining half-hour of the event will feature one local literary artist. This month features Shawnte Orion, whose work has been featured in the Georgetown Review and New York Quarterly. You can check him out ahead of time on his blog at batteredhive.blogspot.com.
