Whatever Works

Though stylistically very different from each other, Stephen Spielberg, Woody Allen, Billy Wilder, and The Coen Brothers are all considered auteurs. But these gents have more in common than mere filmmaking prowess: They share a Jewish heritage.

The Greater Phoenix Jewish Film Festival celebrates the life, culture, and humor of the chosen people through a selection of 11 feature films from around the world. Nine of the films, including a documentary about Tony Curtis, will premiere in Phoenix over the course of this two-week festival. The films vary in topic, with storylines involving World War II, the controversial Leo Frank case, faith, with some romantic comedies and psychological thrillers for good measure.
