Arguably the Southwest’s most far-reaching modern and contemporary art gallery, and certainly one of the largest, the LewAllen Galleries have a history of displaying everything from abstract to pop art, minimalism to expressionism.

Falling under the latter is “Visual Paradox and Perceptual Art,” a collection of solo work spanning the more than 45-year-career of Ed Mieczkowski. The exhibition varies from paintings to sculptures to paper works, but all boast Mieczkowski’s signature geometric abstractionism.

A leader of the Op Art movement and member of the mid-century American artist collaborative the Anonima Group, Mieczkowski is known for a style of expressionism rooted in the precise, taking an analytical and almost bureaucratic approach to creating art.

Catch the exhibition from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, with extended hours until 9 p.m. Thursdays, at LewAllen Scottsdale, 7036 East Main Street. On view through Wednesday, November 6. Admission is free. Call 480-970-3600 or visit www.lewallencontemporary.com.

Thursdays, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; Mondays-Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Starts: Oct. 3. Continues through Nov. 3, 2013
