The Spot: Dave's Electric Brewpub, 502 S. College Ave, Tempe, 480-967-5353 http://www.daveselectricbrewpub.com
The Hours: Monday through Saturday from 4-7 pm, and then again from 10:30- close. Happy hour deals are good all day long Sundays.
The Details: Dave's offers a buck off all appetizers, and to wash it down, $3 pints, $9 pitchers, or the infamous tower o' beer for $18. Head to Dave's on Friday and they'll sweeten the happy hour deal with half-priced appetizers.
(the happy hour break down after the jump)
The Interior: Dave's has big screen TVs a plenty, with seating out on the long narrow patio, inside at the bar, or at a couple of scattered tables. It's a long, narrow venue with lots of dark black and neon, as the "electric" in the name would suggest. Definitely more of a sports bar vibe than that of a microbrewery, but there are beer brewing vats visible from the streets if you take a quick walk down College Ave.
The Cost: Two pints and a platter of chicken fingers with beer battered fries was 13 bucks before tax and tip.
The Conclusion: Dave's Electric Brewpub may have "pub" in the name, but they're decidedly a sports bar. We even got the "Animal House" badge on Foursquare after checking into this (and two other) bars that had been tagged "frat boys." Nice.
Although the appetizer deals aren't that great compared to some other venues, the chicken fingers and fries were well worth the $7 price after the dollar deduction. The fries were beer battered and extra crispy, holding up well to malt vinegar and lots of ketchup.
Dave's also has their own beer on tap, with a lager, amber ale, IPA and oatmeal stout to choose from. The amber ale was refreshing and tasted great, although we really had to struggle to detect any flavor in the lager. So it's a perfect contender compared to those "other" domestics.
An excellent sports bar around campus, provided you avoid it on game day unless you like wading through bodies.
