Several Valley restaurants have ditched the car keys and put the pedal to the asphalt to get food to hungry customers. Last time we checked, gas prices were still below the $4 a gallon mark, but maybe this move to bike delivery is more about the environment. Or maybe these people just really like to sweat.
Whatever the reason, we've found three restaurants now offering food delivered via bike. Provided, of course, you don't live/work/want to eat their food too far away from the actual restaurant.
The most recent addition to the bike gang, Fair Trade Café, now offers its full menu for delivery within four blocks of its Civic Space Park location between 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. (Note: The park location is closed for the summer so no, you can't pick it up in person.) The delivery will run you an extra $2, but with hot and cold sandwiches and salads for under $10, lunch still won't break the bank.

Also downtown and willing to cycle a salad to your desk: Bowl of Greens. Located across from Civic Space Park inside the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism, Bowl of Greens offers build-your-own-salads, Italian and Middle Eastern inspired entrees (baba ganouj, lamb kebab, eggplant parmigiana, pasta with marinara...) and smoothies for delivery within a one-mile radius. They've got a pretty sweet green bike to tote it in, too.
And for eco-friendly suburbanites, there's The Spot in Gilbert. Since opening early this year, it's been delivering on a pair of royal blue and black beach cruisers. You'll be getting more sandwiches and salads here, but given that the restaurant only seats about 20 people inside, delivery might be the best way to guarantee yourself a chair to eat on.
Sure, other cities do bike delivery, but with Phoenix the poster child of city sprawl and our intense summers, bike couriers seem a little out of place. Know of other places with bike delivery? Share in the comments below.
