Forks up, Phoenix! Chow Bella and Roosevelt Row present the fourth annual Pie Social Saturday, November 16, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the "What Should Go Here" Pop Up Park at Second Street and Roosevelt. We've got an all-star lineup of bakers making pies for you to taste, and from now till Pie Social, we'll introduce them to you, one by one.
Today: Country Velador from Cowboy Ciao and Super Chunk Sweets & Treats.
Country Velador proves you don't have to be a fancy culinary school bred pastry chef to make great desserts. She got her start in fast food restaurants at 16 and developed a love of baking over the past six years at Cowboy Ciao. Though she began at Cowboy Ciao in both the front and back of house, she knew her love of pastries would keep her in the kitchen. She is planning on expanding her horizons in the near future by opening a local sweets shop called Super Chunk Sweets & Treats, featuring her craft caramel corn. Confident in her pie entry this year, Velador freely offers that she will be making a Naniamo pie with coconut, peanut butter, cocoa, mascarpone and a whole lot of layers. If that doesn't entice you to test out her pie entry at Pie Social, maybe her awesome answers to our questionnaire will.
