No-strings-attached micro-grants to help launch your awesome ideas. Wouldn't that be fantastic? Wait, it's already happening. It's The Awesome Foundation for the Arts and Sciences. They even have a chapter dedicated solely to food appropriately called, Awesome Food.
Awesome Food awards $1000 every month to folks they deem the most, well, awesome --and it can be any slick idea involving food, "be it urban farming, food truck, recipe collects, pop-up cafes, or health. The more inventive the better."

This all started 2009 in Boston but it's since grown to 21 chapters, spread all over the world from Providence to Melbourne.
To apply you simply answer two essay questions: "Describe yourself, your project, and how you'll pull it off" and "How would you use the money?"
The money comes from the group of trustees, which for the Awesome Food chapter include Serious Eats, Food 52, among others. Usually, each trustee within those chapters agrees to personally contributing $100 each month to create the monthly $1,000 grant.
Some of the project that have been funded through The Awesome Foundation are a giant hammock in Boston, tram sessions in Melbourne, and a fab lab in Washington DC.
