With Curiosity wheels down on Mars, shooting rocks with lasers and doing Myspace self-shots, it's no surprise that astronomical themes are a happening thing. Earlier this year Japanese chocolatiers at L'eclat put out a gorgeous and refined looking collection of chocolate planets.
Their description makes them sound pretty damn tasty as well. The L'eclat solar system includes a sun and the eight "real" planets, sorry Pluto. The sun is a combination of 70% cacao and pineapple and appears to be plated in gold flake. The Earth apparently tastes like lychee and Mars is a combination of pralines and orange. And of course Uranus tastes like ceylon tea flavored with milk, who would have known?
This isn't the only celestial body themed work L'eclat's done. They've also released a series of chocolates modeled after various hunks of space rocks that have crashed to Earth.
Both chocolates are available for purchase online. With the complete solar system setting you back around $35 plus shipping.
More recently and closer to home, Vintage Confections has released a solar system's worth of planetary pops.
Vintage Confections candies are bit more inclusive as it include the sun, all eight planets and Pluto, the little almost planet that was rudely cut from the roster a couple years ago. Sadly, while these pops might look might give Pluto the love it deserves, they aren't flavored differently and the set is only being sold in either strawberry or cotton candy. Also, due to demand, this pops are back ordered until January of 2013.
