This week I am introducing you to my new favorite Pinterest indulgence: The Bourbon Chocolate Milkshake!
You'll catch a buzz for sure because there are only three ingredients in this recipe and 2 ounces of it is bourbon. Add to that 2 ounces of chocolate and 1 cup of vanilla ice cream and you've got it! The recipe says to combine and blend in a blender, but I think you should just mix it up yourself with a spoon. I thought the blender made it too watery. I really wanted mine to have the same texture as the one in the photo on Pinterest.
Which brings me to the most difficult part of this experience: getting a quality photograph. I made this recipe TWICE over the weekend just to try to get a good shot. All I can say is that my photo is REAL LIFE. I made it and I drank it.
I decided to make the chocolate syrup myself, but feel free to use whatever kind of chocolate syrup you like. If you want to have a go at making it yourself, I can tell you that it's super easy and worth your time. You'll have plenty for your milkshakes with some leftover to aid in finishing that half gallon of ice cream.
The Bourbon Chocolate Milkshake could be equally enjoyed alone or in the company of others and one recipe could easily be split for two. It could also be enjoyed without the bourbon too, if that's what you prefer. Either way, don't have too many lest you find yourself dancing the Bourbon Chocolate Milkshake.. on a table (and no, that did NOT happen to me, fyi).
If I hadn't been so concerned with taking a decent photo, I would have enjoyed this milkshake in the company of Pinterest. Are you on there yet? Be sure to follow us!
Chocolate Sauce from the Ciao Bella (How fitting!) Book of Gelato and Sorbetto
by F.W. Pearce & Danilo Zecchin
Makes about 2 cups
1 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 ounces bittersweet chocolate (about 60% cacao), finely chopped
In a medium saucepan, whisk together the water, sugar, and corn syrup, then whisk in the cocoa powder. Place over medium heat and bring to a boil, whisking constantly. Remove from the heat, add the chopped chocolate, and whisk until completely melted. Let cool, then transfer to a container, cover and refrigerate. The sauce will keep for up to 2 weeks.
