Spiga Cucina Italiana Monday, November 17
This week north Scottsdale will welcome a new dining destination to the scene when Spiga Cucina Italiana opens its doors to the public. The new restaurant comes courtesy of Toronto-based restaurateurs Paula and Fernando Esteves (Spuntini Ristorante) and local chef Marc Martinez (Federal Pizza, Postino Wine Café, North Italia). Located at 7500 E. Pinnacle Peak Road, the restaurant serves cuisine from both Italy and the Iberian Peninsula including house-made pasta, Neapolitan-style pizzas, and gourmet grilled fishes and meats. In addition to offering lunch, dinner, and happy hour specials, Spiga will bring diners a 2,350-bottle wine collection featuring rare wines from Portugal and Spain. On Thursday James Beard Award nominated chef Kevin Binkley is teaming up with the Beer for Brains Foundation and Four Peaks Brewery for the Beer for Brains Benefit Dinner. The four-course beer paired dinner costs $85 and will raise money for brain cancer awareness through the Arizona-based non-profit organization. The menu includes dishes such as Smoked Sweet Potato Salad with pickles, sweet tea, white bread, crispy chicken skins, and hot sauce; Slow Roasted Spiced Pork Belly with sprouts, lemon, red onion, jalapeno, and plantain; and pumpkin custard with chocolate cake, cranberry granola, and orange. The dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. at Bink's Scottsdale and also includes a complimentary tasting glass from Four Peaks Brewery. For reservations call 480-664-9238.
