Punchfork pre-selects popular food blogs to be on their searchable list. So far they only have 36 and it's a who's who of the food blogosphere. It's folks like The Pioneer Woman, David Lebovitz, Smitten Kitchen, 101 Cookbooks, Matt Bites, Cannelle et Vanille, and Lottie + Doof. We would gather that the 80/20 rule applies here that if you have the top 20% of the food blogs out there, you've got the majority of what's happening out there in home cooking trends.
Punchfork categorizes the ingredients and you can select a landing page for the recipe but if you want the preparation instructions, you need to click through to the blog where it was originally published. There's a nice Twitter feature that if you click on the recipe to tweet it, it will automatically tag the blog's author.
Punchfork was founded in May 2010 by Jeff Miller, a software developer and angel investor in Silicon Valley. Prior to starting Punchfork, he was a quantitative hedge fund trader. Miller's advisor is the CEO of the hugely popular Japanese recipe database Cookpad, Akimitsu Sano. These dudes have the money and technology to make this a bid deal in the food world.
